Full Text

Awful Death.—About 12 o'clock on Monday night, the watchmen discovered an unusual light and much smoke in a room in the third story of the dwelling house at the corner of Brook's Court and Front street, above Race street, and upon forcing the back door and ascending to the room; a female named, with one child, was found wrapped in flames, lying upon the floor, in a state of intoxication. While sitting by the fire, probably, her clothing caught; and her insensible situation prevented her from assisting herself. The child was taken care of, and the wretched mother drawn by hand in a sleigh to the Hospital, without the least hopes of her surviving many minutes.
