But Not Because Bryan Is-However, He'll Be for the Nominee.
Roger Sullivan, the Democratic national committeeman from Illinois, who has aroused the antagonism of William J. Bryan, came in on the Twentieth Century Limited yesterday morning, accompanied by three or four personal friends. The party went to the Waldorf.
Mr. Sullivan refused to be interviewed until he had attended a meeting of a subcommittee of the Democratic national committee at the Holland House, at which Col. James Guffey of Pennsylvania and National Committeeman McGraw of Maryland were also present. Mr. Sullivan said that the meeting had been called at the request of Congressman Jim Griggs to take some action about helping along the Democratic national campaign, but there was nothing to give out regarding it.
"Mr. Sullivan, we understand that you came here not to attend the reception to Mr. Bryan, but to go to this subcommittee meeting," he was asked.
"That is partly true. I did come here to attend the subcommittee meeting."
"Will you attend the reception to Mr. Bryan?"
"At this time I must decline to say whether I will attend the Bryan reception or not. I expect to talk that over with my friends."
"In view of what Bryan has said about you and of what happened at the recent Democratic State convention of Illinois are you still for Mr. Bryan?"
"Young man, I am for anybody that the Democratic party nominates for President."
"The Illinois Democratic convention indorsed Bryan, did it not?"
