HIGH SCHOOL
It is proposed to erect an agricultural High School at Laurel for the negroes. There are several endowment funds available to supplement the state or county appropriation to that institution which funds we are reliably informed will amount to four or five times as much as the appropriation and it is proposed to place the school under the control of the Superintendent of education county and state, Jenkins and Bura Hilburn and the county school Board. It is our opinion that it would be far better to establish a school of this kind in which the negro would be taught to work decent habits etc. than to have the school built and controlled by the Northern people who have these endowment funds in charge, which they will certainly do if we do not establish it as outlined above.
But the editor is not trying to dictate to the Board of Supervisors nor the school Board. They are every one able, honest patriotic men and can be counted upon to do the right thing for the County. We are going to be satisfied with whatever action they take upon this matter.
