Mr. Editor—I observed a notice in the last Saturday's Journal, that Esrwicke Evans, Esq. of this town, was about preparing to embark in the Greek cause. This is the first intimation I had of his design, and I must say that I was forcibly struck with the nobleness and disinterestedness of the undertaking; the sacrifices to be made in an undertaking so arduous, and withal so precarious, are necessarily great, but from the knowledge I have of the man, of his ardent and enthusiastic love of liberty, his determined perseverance in the cause he espouses, his strength of mind and the athletic firmness of his constitution. I have no doubt of his being able to surmount every obstacle.
Perhaps no man in the State of New-Hampshire is better calculated to aid that distressed people in the struggle to regain once more their independence. The greatest obstacle to this enterprise, is doubtless a want of funds to enable him to pursue it. It is understood, that the Committee of the Greek fund, in Boston, have cheerfully granted the balance of funds, remaining in their hands, to be appropriated to his aid and assistance. This sum, we understand, is small at present, but may probably be increased.
I have not understood, that much has been done in this State in aid of the Greeks, except it be in our general good wishes. They have been toasted at our public entertainments, and it is hoped that something more substantial will now be set on foot. There never has been, and there probably never will be a better opportunity for the people of this State, and particularly of the town of Portsmouth, to express the warmth of their sentiments in favor of this oppressed race, than by aiding in the enterprise of one of our native citizens, so well calculated to embark in this cause.

Main Argument
esrwicke evans is nobly undertaking to aid the greek cause despite great sacrifices and obstacles; new hampshire, especially portsmouth, should provide financial support to enable his mission, as little has been done beyond good wishes.
