THE PRIMARY YESTERDAY
The fellows who won in yesterday's primary think well of the Australian ballot--and the fellows who lost, too, when it comes down a matter of secret ballot and the new method of handling the election in general. The voter in general also appreciates the new method.
There will be a season of explanations and disappointment--naturally. We believe the primary went as the voters wished. When any election can be made to express the will of the people, it ought to be a matter of appreciation on the part of the defeated as well as the victors.
It will not be long before the scramble is forgotten and things that have caused the blood to course a little faster for some of the fellows will be forgotten. It ought to be so that a friendly rivalry may prevail--and that the fellow who wins may enjoy the full support and co-operation of the vanquished and all his friends. That's an ideal situation, but yet one which may prevail where men are men's real brothers. We are looking for that time--looking for it, whether it ever comes.
