Full Text

A party of gentlemen, accompanied by Mr. Stoker of St. Louis, started for the iron regions of our county, last Tuesday morning, to further inspect the ore that abounds on the surface in the locality of Millwood and the northwestern portion of Bedford township. Indications are that iron exists in that neighborhood in quantity sufficient to justify the erection of a foundry. If such should prove to be the case, it will tend greatly to the wealth of the county, and as the neighborhood where this ore is so abundant is only ten or twelve miles from the coal mines, fuel for smelting will be very convenient. The coal used at the Iron Mountain foundries has to be shipped a distance of about two hundred miles. These two mines of wealth--coal and iron--if there were no other inducements, ought to secure to us an early completion of the contemplated railroad through the county.
