Janesville, Wis., Has Sensation Similar to the Case of Madlyn Clayton.
Janesville, Wis., Jan. 27.--Slain by an unknown degenerate and her body thrown from the high bridge into the torrents of Rock river is believed to have been the fate of Miss Josephine Malone of this city. Her body was found floating in the waters at the identical spot where the body of Madlyn Clayton, the unfortunate Chicago show girl, was found six weeks ago.
Chief of Police Appleby is now working on a double murder mystery. The similarity of the crimes presents a baffling situation and opens anew interest in the Clayton case.
Two theories only are tenable. One that a degenerate is roaming in this part of Wisconsin, possessed of a mania for slaying comely women. This is the one on which Chief of Police Appleby is working.
The other is that some enemy attacked her on her way home, and remembering the long time which elapsed between the killing of Madlyn Clayton and the finding of her body chose that as the spot in which to conceal the evidence of his crime. Miss Malone is said to have had no enemies therefore the authorities regard both crimes as the work of one man.
