COLUMBIA RIVER STEAMER AGROUND

FOUR MEN ABOARD REFUSE TO LEAVE, THO HOLE IN STERN AND SHIP IS FAST ON THE ROCKS

THE DALLES, June 8--The river steamer Ellen is fast on the rocks in the Columbia River near here, where she grounded Wednesday night. Rockets for help were sent up.

The four men aboard are believed to be safe, but on account of high water the boats have not dared approach the boat.

A rowboat from the Washington shore reached the Ellen yesterday, but the four men aboard refused to come ashore, as they want to endeavor to float the ship. She has a hole in the stern and is fast on the rocks.
