In keeping with the spirit of the Juneau Pioneers' Days of '98 to be held next Saturday, a lock of hair of the notorious "Soapy" Smith is now on display in the Museum. Also, there is a handbill warning to Soapy and his gang distributed by the Skagway Vigilance Committee of 1898. Beside it is displayed Soapy's answer to warning allegedly printed by a committee of 317 law abiding citizens but actually tacked to the doors of each vigilante by Soapy, himself.
Also are shown pictures of the handsome Jefferson Randolph "Soapy" Smith in his heyday of crime plus another of him laying in the Skagway morgue.
The lock of hair was presented to the Museum by the late Mrs. W. H. Case of Juneau and the handbills were presented more than 25 years ago by Dr. Will Chase of Cordova.
