DiSalle Will Be "Labor
Recognition Dinner"
Speaker Sept. 11th

Organized labor's leadership and seniority will receive special tribute at Akron's first "Labor Recognition Dinner" to be held at the Sheraton Hotel on Sunday afternoon, September 11 at 2:30, with a host of union members, business and civic leaders, and friends of labor in attendance.

Ohio's Governor, Michael V. DiSalle, will deliver the main address at this memorable innovation of a recognition ceremony whereby individuals in local labor circles will be honored for both seniority services and distinguished accomplishments.

of the Akron Labor Council, upon notification of DiSalle's acceptance of the invitation to come to Akron, commented to another member of the legal profession that he had always been impressed with the Governor's early aptitude for public service, and a deep admiration for the way he paid his way through law school by driving a delivery truck.

Leo E. Dugan, executive secretary of Akron Labor Council and Democratic nominee for State Senator, says, that there have been many voices and pioneers in Akron's early union activities who should be honored. He feels that it is within the province and area of responsibility of present labor officials to make certain that those voices do not go unprotected or unheard.

A committee has been appointed to choose those individuals deemed worthy of recognition for their contribution to the labor cause.

Several of Akron's early organizers in the labor movement have distinguished themselves both in this community and other localities in professional service and contributions to society. Two former Akron labor leaders are credited with valuable ideas and methods that were adopted for national defense in World War II.

Several have served both national and state departments in official advisory capacities.

In more recent years, a long list of local union leaders can be found on the roster of public affairs for their time and devotion to civic committees, labor- management activities, United Fund leadership and support of local educa- tional campaigns.
There is some speculation that this "Labor Recognition Dinner" will receive attention nationally and be adopted by other labor organizations as an official function in their cities throughout the country. It is known that certain out- standing out-of-town personalities in the labor movement are planning to attend the Akron dinner.
Governor DiSalle, who is on a state- wide speaking tour during September, will come to the Akron dinner direct from a speaking engagement at the Jefferson-Jackson Dinner in Adams County.
