Ellison McKissick, son of Col. A. F. McKissick of Greenwood has received his commission as first lieutenant in the Engineers Division of the United States army. He went in training at Ft. Oglethorpe, Ga., in May, and was then sent to Belvoir, Va., and from there into camp at the American University, Washington, D. C.
He is the grandson of Col. I. G. McKissick, who was lieutenant colonel in the Confederate army and wounded at the battle of Cold Harbor and a nephew of Lieut. E. J. McKissick, who was killed at the battle of Seven Pines, near Richmond. He is the first descendant of Col. I. G. McKissick to hold a commission in the United States army, and is a soldier by inheritance as well as by profession. Union county soil gave birth to Col. I. G. McKissick, and his body sleeps in the cemetery here. Col. A. F. McKissick, now a man of large affairs in Greenwood, is also a native of Union. Young McKissick is, therefore, by descent, a son of Union county, and there will be many Union people who will watch the career of this promising young man with deep interest.
