From the Watchman.

The Bloody Outrage.

The affair of the Chesapeake, was an insult requiring immediate reparation. It justly called forth the American spirit, and excited the highest indignation and alarm in the bosom of every honest citizen. What then shall be said of the late unparalleled outrage and MURDER at Savannah, committed by a banditti of Frenchmen, who have for four months past been permitted to enter our ports, unmolested, and treated even with friendship and kindness? That our citizens, in their own streets, should be insulted, fired on, stabbed in the heart, & wilfully MURDERED! by the bloodthirsty pirates of a nation professing the most ARDENT LOVE for America, is beyond endurance to endure. Degrading, as it is, there are many among us who can slightly pass over the "unfortunate affair" as they please to call it. Yes, some, who hide their real characters under the mask of Republicanism, have the hardihood not only to palliate the offence, but even to palm it on their own countrymen! Well may we exclaim with Brutus to the Roman senate, "Who is here so VILE, that will not love his country? If any, speak!" The Editor of the Boston Chronicle, foremost in the ranks of French Republicanism, seems to reply. "I am the man." Let the reader examine the following from that paper:

"THE variety of methods to bring on a controversy with France, may on investigation, account for this extraordinary procedure, as the French seamen have generally behaved with civility when on shore. If we have among us citizens who attempt to raise a "rebellion" against our Laws, we may suspect that such men would not be dilatory in creating a fracas between American and French seamen."
