FROM BUENOS AYRES

We have been favored with several numbers of the Buenos Ayres Argus, a political paper, to March 26.

[Boston Pal.

The Argus of the 23d March says: General Don Carlos Alvear has arrived in this capital from his mission to the United States. So early a return seems to have been caused by an express order from this government sent to him after his departure: this has left a chasm considering that it is of national importance that these United Provinces should have a Minister in the United States; but we think the government must have had urgent motives to send such orders, especially as the said General had been handsomely received, and enjoyed distinguished consideration; thus acquiring an aptitude which would have rendered it easy for him to promote with success the interests of his country. The Congress General of the United Provinces of Buenos Ayres proceeds in the exercise of its functions with great deliberation, solemnity and unanimity. It gladdens one's heart to find among the number of illustrious deputies that compose that body the venerated name of the Patriot Funes, the enlightened and genuine friend of mankind. A well contested election for Representatives in the Legislature of Buenos Ayres had taken place in that city. The twelve candidates in favor of the government had 3799 votes, and the opposition candidates had only 115 votes. On Holy Saturday, (the last day of Lent,) there was publicly burnt in Buenos Ayres a Judas of a huge size, with this label, "Emblem of Anarchy," to commemorate the late defunct opposition. Great preparations were making in the province of Entre Rios, to secure it from any sudden incursion from the Brazilian forces at Montevideo and vicinity. The last Message of President Monroe to Congress is faithfully translated and published entire in the Argus, which is the government paper. The Constitution of the province of St. Salvador, one of the States of the confederation of Central America, has already been published. The Catholic, Apostolic, and Roman Religion is dominant, and the exercise of all other is prohibited.
