NEW YORK (ANP) One thinks of a "thank you" note as being an ordinary expression of appreciation and not worthy of widespread comment. But 32 "thank-you letters" contained in a leather-bound book and from presidents of educational institutions is news.
Last week, Mrs. Chauncey L. Waddell, white, received such a book from presidents of member institutions of the United Negro College fund. It was in token of the five years of service she had given as chairman of the Greater New York Women's division of the fund. The presentation was made by Dr. F. D. Patterson, president of Tuskegee Institute, at fund headquarters.
Mrs. Waddell, in accepting the memento and also the chairmanship for the 1950 drive, announced that the division's goal would be $100,000. The drive opens early in April.
