Exercises Being Held Today
Will Be Assigned to Marine Corps
As Second Lieutenant Edward Authier, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Authier of Church street is a member of the class which graduates today from the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis. He has stood as one of the high ranking members of the class throughout the course and now ranks 122nd in a class of 425. It has been announced by the Navy Department that Mr. Authier will be made a second lieutenant and be assigned to the Marine Corps. Mr. Authier is a native of Putnam, having been born here, and has lived here all of his life. He attended Smith Street School and is a graduate of Putnam High School, class of 1927. He took a post graduate course at Putnam High before taking the examinations for admittance to the Naval Academy. When he took the examinations he received one of the highest marks ever made in an entrance examination from this state. He entered the Academy in 1929. His parents, his sister, Miss Elizabeth Authier, an aunt, Mrs. Samuel Brisbeau of Webster and a cousin, Miss Margaret Fielding of Worcester are at Annapolis attending the graduation exercises.
