Meet Mrs. Ellie
By Lily Cassels

On Monday, Sept. 15. when the Greenbelt Co-op Nursery School (14 Parkway) starts its fall term, a young, vivacious woman will be waiting to welcome her three- and four-year-old charges. Her name is Mrs. Eleanor Hodges, better known as "Mrs. Ellie."

According to Mrs. Helen Geller, President of the Nursery School, Mrs. Ellie comes well-qualified for the position. Having received her B.S. degree in Childhood Education from the University of Maryland, she taught at the Glenmont Elementary Kindergarten, the Greenbelt Co-op Nursery School during the year 1956-1957, and also the Lanham Co-op Kindergarten. Her experience in cooperative schools has shown her the importance of working with the parents, as well as teaching the children.

During her college days, this attractive young lady was a member of Alpha Chi Omega, among other groups, and was president of the Panhellenic Council. The winner of two college tennis championships, she still maintains her interest in this active game and many other sports. Mrs. Ellie recalls with fond memories her trip to Europe in the summer of 1954 and her trip across the United States during the summer of 1956.

Married to James P. Hodges, a Graduate Assistant in the Economics Department at the University of Maryland and now working on his Masters Degree in Economics, Mrs. Ellie is the mother of a young boy. The Hodges live in West Hyattsville.

"We are indeed fortunate in having such a charming, competent teacher," reports Mrs. Geller. "And, in addition, this year we have been promised the services of a student teacher assistant from the University of Maryland." The Nursery School does have just a few vacancies.
