NO SCHOOL Until Board of Health Permits,--The School Board Meets.

The Marietta City Board of Education held a special meeting last evening to close up their business preparatory to opening school Monday. Messrs Curtis, Dye, Meisenhelder and Richardson were present.

Mr. George M. Plumer was reappointed member of the City Board of Examiners for three years. Mr. Curtis was authorized to have shade trees planted at the Marion and Pike street buildings. Mr. McIntyre was employed as janitor at the Washington school, to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Mr. Dye.

Superintendent Williams reported the names of the successful applicants for certificates to teach in the city schools, at the examination yesterday. They were as follows:

For Two Years--Mary R. Cox, Macksburg; Nellie Neptune, Marietta; Lillie Stacy, Lowell; Florence A. McNeal, Catherine W. Gear, High School certificate; Clara Scott; Mary Scott.

For One Year--Elizabeth Spindler, Stanleyville; Elizabeth H. Hall, Ora F. White, Anna B. Stephenson, Sarah G. Childs, Marietta; Harriett L. Baldwin, Beverly; Annie E. Farson, Belpre; Nettie Bierschwal, special in German.

There were three failures.

The Teachers' committee recommended the appointment of the following: Miss Anna B. Stephenson, as librarian and substitute teacher at $20 per month; Olive Green, Clara Smith, May Kidd, as cadet teachers at $20 per month; Lillie Stacy, Grace Spooner, Sarah G. Childs, as regular teachers. The report of the committee was accepted and all applicants were employed with the exception of Miss Childs, whose application will be considered at the next meeting.

There being some doubt as to whether the Board should accept the statement of the Board of Health's action in regard to closing the schools, as being official, Mr. Richardson called up Health Officer McClure by phone and asked for information. After a conversation over the phone, lasting a few minutes, Mr. Richardson stated that Dr. McClure said the Board of Health had considered it best to have two weeks more vacation to avoid spreading of scarlet fever.

The School Board therefore decided not to open the schools until the Board of Health thought best. Clerk Meisenhelder was authorized to ask for bids for the coal supply. The bills were allowed and the Board adjourned to meet Tuesday evening.
