On Tuesday evening an aged man of venerable appearance, a citizen of Salem, Mass. procured the assistance of the Police authorities, to enable him to drag his daughter, the Victim of Seduction, from her infamous haunts, with a view of endeavoring to restrain her in her career of vice. She was arrested by one of the officers and confronted with the stern, though calm, gaze of her agonized parent; her blighted countenance bespoke her ruin, whilst her eyes flashing with an unholy fire showed that the despoiler's lures had too deeply poisoned her mind to give hopes of an easy cure. Margaret, the unfortunate girl, was rather above the middle female height, and probably not more than 18 years of age, and so young, sunk to the most infamous depths of disgrace. "Home, ha! what care I for home or friends! do you think," said she, "if you force me to go home, I'll stay there? no, my person is my own, not that old man's." And can this be the same girl, a being possessed of the same mental faculties which but a short time since appeared to guide that person when the ornament of her father's house, the pride of his hopes?— and now, what a spectacle to that father!
