THE MESSAGE.
The Message is Loco Foco. It "follows in the footsteps of its illustrious predecessor," of December last. It again presses the atrocious Sub-Treasury scheme upon Congress. It wars upon the rights and interests of the country. It defies the people—contemns the repeated votes of Congress on the same question—and insults the nation. It even repudiates the recorded sentiment of its author—that the "sober second thought of the people" is always right. It gives the lie direct to that sentiment, or it wilfully runs counter to the wishes of the country. The "sober second thought of the people" has decided against the Sub-Treasury scheme. New York—the President's own State—a State which, two years ago, gave him 28,272 majority—has now condemned him and his Sub-Treasury by over 10,000 majority! The same condemnation, though not signal, has been pronounced by a large majority of the States. And yet, while professing to be governed by the public will—while professing great love for the people and greater regard for their interests, Mr. Van Buren madly persists in forcing measure upon Congress and the country, which has been thrice condemned by the House of Representatives, and repeatedly condemned by the popular voice indignantly expressed through the ballot boxes!
