The Choctaws.—Col. H. L. Scott, of Newton county, has been appointed assistant superintendent for the removal of the Choctaws, in the place of the Rev. T. C. Stewart, of Pontotoc. There are about 2,500 of this tribe still lingering in Mississippi, to the great injury of themselves and the annoyance and discomfort of their white neighbors. However, from the liberal inducements held out, and the facilities afforded, by this Administration to those who wish to embark in their removal to their new homes west of Arkansas, the counties in which they live have a good prospect of getting rid of a population which has been so long a drawback on their settlement and prosperity. The Indians can never prosper when surrounded by the whites, and it is therefore no less their interest than ours, that the separation should take place as speedily as possible. -Jackson (Mi.) Southron.
