From Doctor Deal who returned last evening from a visit to A. C. Yoacham's daughter, we learn that the accident happened whilst Taylor Bales was driving the mower. The child was running before it, caught its foot in a chuck hole and fell, Bales had the presence of mind to immediately pull back on the horses, otherwise the leg of the child would have been cut clean off, as it was, the right leg was cut above the ankle, all the muscles and tendons were cut to the bone and the bone partially divided. During the operation of uniting the muscles and tendons the Doctor could not administer chloroform but told the child she must grit her teeth and bear it, which she did without a whimper during the whole operation. He had to take eight stitches in one portion. The child slept well during Friday evening and Saturday morning, and the Doctor is of the opinion that she will not even be lame, which we are pleased to hear.
