Full Text

We have a well written communication from Belfast, Tennessee, calling attention to the fact, that the Southern dead on the battle fields of Tennessee, especially that of Shiloh, are being sadly neglected. It is an eloquent tribute to the memory of these seemingly forgotten braves, and an appeal for an united effort on the part of their friends, and those who sympathized with the cause in which they fell, to adopt measures to properly reinter their remains. Our correspondent argues that they are excluded from the care which the Government pays to the relics of the Federal dead, and that this sacred duty devolves upon the people of the State in their capacity as individuals, or in associations for the purpose.
We concur fully in his suggestions and second the noble appeal which he makes. Humanity pleads for it, and justice approves it, and there can be no objection to movements looking to the object in view from any thing deserving the name of man. To noble minds the grave buries resentments, and Christian attentions and courtesies to its tenants do not resurrect them. We trust that early and thorough steps may be taken to proceed in this proper work, and will lend all the assistance in our power to accomplish it.
