CONGRESSMEN AS MEDIATORS
A House Committee Asked to Investigate the C., B. & Q. Strike.

WASHINGTON, March 5. -In the house Mr. White, of Indiana, introduced a preamble and resolution which was referred to the committee on commerce, reciting the fact of the strike of engineers on the Chicago. Burlington & Quincy Railroad, and that if not speedily settled, will end in wide-spread destruction and suffering, and providing for a special committee of five members of the house to go to Chicago and investigate the condition of affairs in connection with the strike, and that the committee be empowered to act as mediators between the railroad company and Chief Arthur, and settle difficulties agreeable to both parties.
