Dr. Ferris' Card to the Citizens of Wyandot County.

I wish to say a few words to the citizens of Wyandot county in explanation of the course that I propose to pursue hereafter. In the first place, I have no intention of removing from Upper Sandusky but expect to make it my home during my life time. Neither have I any intention of discontinuing the practice of my profession but expect to continue that as long as I am capable of doing so, but I have now been engaged in the general practice of medicine for more than thirty years, my time and what ability I possessed has been at the service of the public night and day, and without regard to roads or weather for that length of time, I have endeavored to battle with disease with the best weapons that I could command and to use them with all the skill that I possessed in every case. I have had my triumphs and defeats; my share of commendation and censure. In looking back over my professional life I can recall no single instance where I did not do the very best I could for the comfort and recovery of my patients. I can recall many cases where I think I could do better now than I did then. Since putting on my professional armor I have tried not to let it rust, but to keep it bright by constant reading, observation, reflection and study. I have entirely changed my practice from the Allopathic to the Homeopathic system; and with twenty years experience of the former and ten years of the latter I am entirely satisfied that the change has been most unmistakably for the better; while I find that I am not physically able now to endure the hardships of a general practice I believe that I am mentally better qualified to contend successfully with disease than ever before. I have therefore determined to discontinue the general practice and devote my entire attention to Diseases of Women.

I shall be at home in Upper Sandusky, on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday of every week. I shall be in my office on Saturday of every week during the year. My office hours will be from 8 to 12 A. M., and 1 to 5 P. M., where all persons calling during office hours will be sure to find me.

I do not wish to do any professional business outside of my office, or on any other day than Saturday, or at any other hour than office hours. I want a day occasionally that I can call my own. This is something that I have seldom had for the last thirty years. Besides I want time to write and study in order to perfect myself as far as possible in the speciality I have chosen. It is a very extensive and important one, and requires all the attention and care that I can bestow upon it, to do it justice. I shall be absent every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, for the purpose of visiting Professionally some of the neighboring county seats, where I shall prescribe for no other diseases except Diseases of Women, and I shall make that my special business in Upper Sandusky; but as I have many old friends and patrons in Wyandot county, who may wish to consult me in relation to other diseases, and as I have already devoted a good deal of my time to the subject of chronic diseases generally: I will prescribe in my office for all diseases for which any person may desire to consult me and do the best I can. I shall not have time to keep books and collect accounts, and all persons are requested to pay for my services when they receive them. It has always been the most unpleasant part of my business to ask a man for money, and this arrangement will remove this little unpleasantness out of the way. For this reason, and for the further reason that I have not time to attend to it, I have placed my notes and accounts in the hands of Grissel & Kail for settlement and collection. I need all the money that is due me, and I hope that those indebted to me will pay their indebtedness with as little delay as possible. If any errors should be found in my accounts, on application to me they will be cheerfully corrected. I make no charge for consultation where I do not give or prescribe medicine.

To my many patrons and friends for their very liberal patronage and the uniform courtesy and kindness which I have received at their hands I am truly and sincerely grateful.
