HOLD NAA MEETING HERE
Representatives from several colleges met at Clark College in the second annual meeting for the 5th region comprising Georgia, Florida, and Alabama of the National Alumni Association and exchanged ideas and kits on such topic as "The Role of the Alumni in Recruiting Student," "Alumni as Ambassadors of Good Will" and actively participated in a workshop in magazines and publications.
Wilton C. Scott, director of public relations at Savannah State College and consultant to the Columbia University's national press association, presided as regional president. The delegates voted to hold their 1955 regional meeting at Florida A. and M. University, Tallahassee, Florida, and participate in the National Alumni Association's convention at Morgan State College, Baltimore, Md., April 15 and 16.
Colleges represented were Clark, Morehouse, Morris Brown, Atlanta; Savannah State College, Savannah; Florida A. and M. University, Tallahassee, Fla.; Tuskegee Institute, Tuskegee, Ala.; Talladega College, Talladega, Ala. Miss Mary Frances Oatts graduate of Lane College, served as secretary.
Dean A. A. McPheeters of Clark gave the welcome address at the Friday night opening meeting with Mrs. J. R. Dennis of Southwest
Georgia Alumni Chapter of Savannah State College, responding. Participating in the Friday night panel, 'The Role of the Alumni in Recruiting Students,' were: Mrs. Jessie Sessoms, general secretary of Savannah State College Alumni as leader, Dr. C. R. Hamilton, Talladega; Lawrence Young, Savannah State College, South Central Georgia Chapter.
Charles J. Smith, director of public relations at Florida A. and M. University, directed the workshop in publications with Marion Jackson, Atlanta Daily World, as consultant. The workshop was held on Saturday morning. Following the workshop, a forum, "Alumni as Ambassadors of Good Will." was conducted by G. W. Conoly, president of the National Alumni Association and Alumni secretary at Florida A. and M. University.
The consultants were Marion Jackson, Morehouse College; Dr. J. F. Summersette, Clark College, and J. Henry Smith, executive secretary, Tuskegee Institute's Alumni Association.
Dr. Summersette conducted the final business session with Charles Trout, director of public relations for Tuskegee, giving the closing remarks.
