Full Text

Fatal Run Down Road Accident.—On Tuesday last, Mr. Samuel Bent of Greenwich, Conn., was run over and instantly killed by one of the trains of the New-Haven Railroad, about a mile west of the Village of Stamford. From the evidence adduced before the Coroner, it appears that Mr. Bent was walking on the track at a time that two trains were approaching him from opposite directions, and as it is supposed, the noise of one prevented him from hearing the approach of the other behind. He was walking toward Stamford, on the down track, and perceiving a train coming down on it, he stepped aside to the east or up track, almost immediately in front of a train from New-York, which could not be stopped in time to save his life. Mr. B. was about 50 years old, and had several relatives in Stamford, who are deeply afflicted by the melancholy occurrence.
