SPLENDID SPECIMEN OF DIE SINKING.—We have been shown a coin with the head of the present French King upon it—the impression from a die sunk at the request of the government, by Mr. Allen Leonard, an artist and resident of Philadelphia. The French coin is said to be the most carefully executed of any of the coins of modern nations, critically denoting all the characteristics of the object represented, and otherwise in its finish being most delicate and workman-like. In the piece which we describe this excellence is completely attained, and competent judges have no hesitation in saying that it is better done, making a clearer and better impression than even the original of which it is a copy. The present coin of the United States needs amendment in respect to proportion in the figure represented, as well as in the representation of the drapery, delicate lines and accessories. This can only be brought about by the employment of the highest order of talent and taste.—Pennsylvanian.
