There has been considerable discussion in the Eighth Assembly district of late as to whether Thomas McEwan as a United States Commissioner and a Federal supervisor of elections could serve as Assemblyman if elected. The matter was especially discussed at a meeting of the Fremont Club several nights ago and Mr. McEwan cited the case of United States Commissioner Isaac S. Romaine who while holding a Federal office served in the Assembly. Mr. McEwan said to a reporter for The News that if he found that the holding of the office of Assembly conflicted with the law regulating his conduct as a Federal officeholder, he would resign his Federal position.
