Full Text

Washington, October 9. No positive information can be obtained in regard to the proceedings against white leaguers. The best opinion is that the attorney general is, to use the mildest phrase—timid. The attorney general upon being interrogated concerning the rumors prevalent in New Orleans, stated that he instructed the institution of legal proceedings against the members of the white league throughout the city. He stated that he did not consider it worth while either to confirm or deny the reports. From this it is to be inferred that there is good foundation for the rumor.
