France Guards African Empire
Against Aggression from Libya

When Italy first began unofficial clamoring for Tunisia, the Italian travel bureau in Tunis (above) was well smashed up during demonstrations.

This happened early last December following Count Ciano's remarks in the Italian chamber of deputies.

In the intervening three months Paris has made Tunisia almost as impregnable as the famous Maginot line which guards France from Germany.

The Tunisian frontier is largely mountainous, like the view shown at right, handicapping an invader.
