Lexington, September 19.

By a gentleman from Fort Washington, who left that place on Monday last, we are informed, that an officer of the United States Army, will immediately proceed with a flag to the new erected Spanish posts on the Mississippi within the boundaries of the United States. His business, it is said, is, to enquire what are the intentions of that nation, in making encroachments on the United States territory, &c.

By col. Delay who is just returned from the mouth of Green river, we have the following important intelligence: A Mr. Palmer at Vienna, informed him, that his son had just returned from Lansing Grace, and had seen a detachment of Spaniards fortifying at the mouth of the Ohio within the limits of this state. This was corroborated by mr. Tardiveau, (who has just returned from confinement amongst the Spaniards on suspicion of his being concerned in the late intended expedition against them) who saw preparations making at Natches, said to be intended for the above purpose. What, with constitutional and territorial encroachments tamely submitted to, we are likely to have little left. We expect the legislature of this state will be called shortly, for surely never was so critical as the present.

This intelligence is further confirmed by a gentleman immediately from Cumberland, who says, that some Chickasaws had arrived in that territory, who gave an exact statement as above recited.
