DeRenne P.-T. A. Holds Coronation

The George W. J. DeRenne School's Parent-Teacher Association held its Annual Coronation on Friday, December 6 at 8:00 p.m. in the school auditorium.

The impressive program, which also featured the DeRenne Alumni Starlets as well as several guest artists, was witnessed by many parents and friends.

Mrs. Mamie Smalls, sixth grade Mother from Benjamin Densler's class reigned this year as "Mrs. G. W. DeRenne." with Mrs. Louise Baker, seventh grade Class Mother from Wade M. Simmons' class and Mrs. Carolyn Moffett, first grade Class Mother from Miss Jettie Adams' class as second and third place winners respectively.

Sgt. Thomas Daniels, P. T. A. President presented Gift Envelopes to all of the Class Mothers, after which the new "Mrs. DeRenne" was crowned by Mrs. Catherine Newton, vice president of the P. T. A.

The class mothers and their alternates in the order of their running were: Mrs. Clara Bryant, Mrs. Ruth Hill; Mrs. Lila Mack--Mrs. Webb: Mrs. Louise Wallace -Mrs. Freeman; Mrs. Dorothy Jones—Mrs. Council; Mrs. Emma Wright -Mrs. Tharpe; Mrs. Mary White -Mrs. Bivins; Mrs. Elvina Johnson-Mrs. Thomas; Mrs. Mary Jane Perry-Mrs. Snype; Mrs. Cassie Manigo-Mrs. Hargrett; Mrs. Alice Scandrick; Mrs. Lottie Brown-Miss Wright; Mrs. Johnnie Ellington-Miss Gaither: Mrs. Priscilla Wilson-Miss Miller; Mrs. Genevieve Futch-Mrs. Walker-Mrs. Rosetta Butler-Mrs. Marion; Mrs. Gussie Copeland-Miss Graham; Miss Keith had no class mother; Mrs. Ethel Drayton -Mrs. Jenkins; Mrs. C Jackson--Mrs. Bryan; Mrs. Estell Mack-Mrs. Badger.

Mrs. Merdis Lyons, teacher at DeRenne, gave a beautiful rendition of "Around the World" which was dedicated to "Mrs. DeRenne."

Among the Alumni participating were: Emily Stevens '57, Iris Wright '57, Greer Gadsden '57, William Gordon '57, Gloria Garrison, Inez Burns '57, Gwendolyn Roberts '57, Albert Bacon '54, Sandra Simon '55, and Margaret Garrison '54.

Outstanding features on the program were the appearances of the Cann Park Dance Group and Mrs. Mildred Young's Dance Group. Both groups were enjoyed immensely.

The program was closed with remarks and announcements by the principal, Mrs. Ether Warrick.

The Coronation Committee consists of Mrs. Lillie Scandrick, Chairman; Mrs. Marian Hill, Mrs. Adel Black, Miss Jettie Adams, Mrs. C. Bland, Mrs. Merdis Lyons, Mrs. Carolyn Marion, Miss Ruby Wright. The musical accompanists for the program were Miss Mildred Graham and Mrs. Carolyn Marion. The Committee is grateful to all who helped in making this program a success.
