By the Unity, Cooley, arrived at York, in six Weeks from London, we have received Papers as late as the 2d of November, from which we have copied the following Extract of the Proceedings at Guildhall on the 29th of October last:
"Yesterday, at twelve o'Clock the Sheriffs and Attendants came on Hustings, when Mr. Sheriff Oliver informed the Livery, that the Court of Aldermen were then met, and begged their Patience till one O'clock;" at which Time the Town Clerk came forward, and declared, that the Poll, after the nicest Enquiry, was in Favour of the Aldermen Wilkes and Townshend; that the Numbers on the Scrutiny stood the same as at the Conclusion of the Poll, and that they were returned to the Court of Aldermen for their Determination. At two o'Clock the Lord Mayor came on the Hustings, and the proper Officer declared to the Livery that the Court had discovered a Majority in Favour of Alderman Townshend, and that they had made Choice of him to be Lord Mayor for the Year ensuing. When the Declaration was made in Favour of Alderman Townshend, there was a great Confusion in the Hall for some Time, as the Friends of that Gentleman clapped and huzzaed, and those of Alderman Wilkes hissed and hooted, which some Time after subsided."
