Rev. C. F. Jenkins Deliver M'Brown Founders' Day Address

Rev. C. F. Jenkins, outstanding Ohio minister, civic leader and one of the promoters of the United Negro College Fund, will deliver the Founders' Day address at Morris Brown College, on Wednesday, March 12, in the College Chapel.

Bishop Sherman L. Greene, chancellor of the College; prominent churchmen, laymen and alumni are expected to be on hand to bring greeting on the sixty-seventh birthday of the institution. The program will also mark the end of the annual Founders' Day Campaign.

A graduate of Virginia Union University, Rev. Jenkins is pastor of Second Baptist Church, Columbus, Ohio, where he has served for the past 15 years. Before taking over his present pastorate, he served as pastor of leading churches in Virginia, West Virginia and Pennsylvania.

SPEAKER OUTSTANDING COMMUNITY LEADER

In addition to being active in the United Negro College Fund and in religious circles as chairman of the State Board of Christian Education of the Ohio Baptist General Association; chairman of the Civic Betterment Committee of the Baptist Ministers Alliance; and member of the Ohio State University Religious Council, Rev. Jenkins is also an outstanding community leader.

He is currently a member of the Board of Management of Spring Street YMCA; a commissioner on the Columbus Metropolitan Housing Authority; member of the Mayor's Committee for Civic Betterment of Columbus; and a director of the Franklin County Child Welfare Council.

MORRIS BROWN OPENED IN 1885

Morris Brown was founded under the patronage of the African Methodist Church in 1881. At a meeting of the original board of trustees, assembled in Bethel Church, February 1, 1881, a site, located at the corner of Houston Street and North Boulevard, was selected and later purchased. In May, 1885, a charter was granted and October of the same year, the institution was opened under the principalship of Mrs. Mary McCree.

The first class was graduated in 1890, and 1894, the Liberal Arts College was organized under the presidency of Prof. A. S. Richardson. The School of Religion, Turner Theological Seminary, was formally opened in 1894, with Rev. E. L. Chew as dean.

In September, 1932, the institution was moved to its present site, West Hunter and Tatnall Streets, on the Old site of Atlanta University.
