LOUDON
Thanksgiving Day.—Yesterday (Thursday 24th) having been set apart by his Excellency Gov. Johnson, as a day of Thanksgiving and Prayer throughout the State, was duly observed by our citizens. Our Town Council had previously and very appropriately recommended that all business should be suspended from 10 o'clock A. M. to 2 P. M., and our business houses were all closed during those hours.—Rev. John L. Gir, of the Episcopal Church, who by the way is an excellent man, favored our citizens with a rich intellectual repast, in the shape of a very able address, appropriate to the occasion.
Nothing is more appropriate than that a christian nation—great and prosperous as our happy country—should set apart days of thanksgiving and humiliation, as well for domestic enjoyments as for National privileges and glory.—And then to think of the number of fine roast Turkeys, Pigs and Pullets, Pastry and other good things that are always forthcoming on those days—it is enough to "cause the dullest heart to leap with gladness that Thanksgiving Day was ever invented." The only objection we have to them they don't come often enough.
