A man by the name of Smith, has been apprehended in Richmond, for endeavoring to effect the escape of two negro men, from their masters. The negroes were boxed up, separately, and consigned to a house in Philadelphia, but suspicion was excited as to the contents of the boxes, and on examination, were found to contain a negro apiece, who were furnished with water, &c., for the trip. Meanwhile, Smith had left, but was telegraphed to the different cities, and the next day's train of cars brought Mr. Smith, a prisoner, from Fredericksburg, to Richmond, where he is now undergoing his trial.
