SLASH IN ROAD RATE PLEASING TO FARM BUREAU

Gratification at the action of the supervisors in reducing the county road tax from 40 to 17 cents, was expressed today by Scott B. Foulds, secretary-manager of the Imperial County Farm Bureau.

"The farm bureau has been studying tax affairs for some months and we felt the road tax could be entirely eliminated," Foulds said.

"However, in conference with the supervisors it was finally decided that reducing the tax this year and possibly eliminating it next year, would be the wiser course. The supervisors did not wish to take the step of entire elimination at this time.

"We are now making a study of unified road management for the county and hope to have something constructive in this line to offer the county in the near future.

We feel that greater benefits will result from a unified supervision and with no deterioration of the road system.

"Under the circumstance, the farm bureau feels that the supervisors did the best it possibly could on the tax rate," Foulds concluded.
