Clark's Lincoln Is Speaker At So. Methodist
Dr. C. Eric Lincoln, administrative assistant to the President at Clark College, was speaker at Southern Methodist University Wednesday for the meeting of the National Association of College and University Chaplains.
In a banquet address entitled "A Footnote on the Atlanta Story," Dr. Lincoln talked on the sit-ins and other movements seeking to remove segregation. The author of the recently released book "The Black Muslims In America," told banquet guests the democratic ideal in America can never become a reality until Christianity becomes impatient with the spacious apologies for segregation and discrimination and confronts the challenge to put its ideals into practice.
He sounded an optimistic note for the future of Atlanta, predicting that "Atlanta will work with characteristic calmness and sanity, confronting racial problems and resolving them." "Atlanta is fortunate," he continued, "in that it is a community of men with extraordinary vision and courage without respect to race." "Within the next two decades," he said, "Atlanta will be the best place in America for Americans to live, no matter what their color may be."
Dr. Lincoln will appear on "Open Mind" over New York City's NBC station WNBC-TV on April 23 in a round table discussion with James Baldwin, Malcolm X. and George S. Schuyler. The broadcast will also be carried on The Voice of America.
