Full Text
As considerable anxiety is expressed in relation to the expected visit of the "Nation's Guest" to this place, we deem it proper to state, upon undoubted authority, although no formal reply to the invitation given him by the citizens of our town has been received, that the visit of General Lafayette will be protracted, by unavoidable circumstances, to the month of April or May. Indeed, judging from the conversation which was had by a gentleman of this place with the General, a few days since, we are inclined to believe that a visit at all from that distinguished individual will be extremely doubtful. His numerous engagements, besides his positive pledge to visit the Southern States early in the Spring, would seem to render doubtful that which would be so extremely desirable to us all. The General, informally, expressed his deep sense of the kindness of the people of Winchester, for the invitation given him, and begged that his grateful acknowledgements and best wishes would be presented to them.
