WATER TEST.

The test of the water works machinery. which was to have taken place to-day. was postponed on account of the unavoidable absence of Mr. Ira Holly, who was to superintend the test on the part of the Holly company. This test is only to comply with the contract, which calls for eighty million foot pounds, with one hundred pounds of coal, and is the measure of the economic operation of the machinery. Superintendent Cramer confidently expects the machinery will develop a fuel duty over ninety millions. The city council, at its meeting this evening, will appoint a time for the fire stream test, which will be a display well worth seeing. The Argus suggests that the fire department also exhibit its proficiency at this test.
