Twenty-Seventh Congress.

WASHINGTON, June 2, 1841

UNITED STATES SENATE.

Mr. Benton offered a series of resolutions, seven in number, calling upon the President of the United States for information respecting the condition of the Treasury, &c.

Mr. Clay of Ky. moved that the resolutions lie on the table and be printed. The motion was adopted, and the Senate then proceeded to the election of the Chairmen of the Standing Committees, when the following was the result:

Mr. King said, to proceed under the rule to ballot for the committees would consume great deal of the time of the Senate: he presumed there would be no objection to the Chair filling up the committees and reporting them to-morrow.—The suggestion received the unanimous assent of the Senate.

Mr. Clay said, as he understood that no business was to be disposed of, he would now proceed to move the resolution of which he had given notice yesterday, viz. "That so much of the President's message as relates to a uniform currency and a suitable fiscal agent, capable of adding increased facilities in the collection and disbursement and security of the public revenue, be referred to a select committee."

The resolution was agreed to nem. con.

The joint resolution from the House of Representatives in relation to the reference of so much of the President's Message as relates to the death of the President to a select committee having been taken up—

Mr. Bayard moved that a committee of five be appointed on the part of the Senate, and that the Chair appoint the same; which motion having been adopted, the Senate adjourned.

HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.

The House met at twelve o'clock, pursuant to adjournment.

The following members were announced as the committee appointed on the part of this House on the resolution presented yesterday by Mr. Adams, and which was in the following words:

Resolved, That a commission of one member may be appointed on part of Senate and House of Representatives by the Congress of the United States in express terms of deep sensibility of this sadness in the event of the decease of their late President, William Henry Harrison and upon man of a Message of the President as relates to that melancholy event be referred up as joint committee.

Congress—Messrs. J.P. Adams of Mass. Wm. P. Tompkins of Ky. Archer of Va. Williams of N.C. Mary Everett of Vt. Onion of N.Y. Ayres of Maine, of S.J. Barnet of Pa. Bolden of Ky. W.C.
