Friday Evening, the 9th Instant, the following melancholy Accident happened at Block Island: Messrs Joseph Sheffield and Henry Willis, Inhabitants of that Island, both being mounted on the same Horse, and riding towards their home, had Occasion to pass through a Part of a Pond of Water, in which there was a deep Hole, and they unfortunately rode into the deep Water, by which Mr. Sheffield, being intangled with the Bridle, was drowned, as was his Horse. The Corps of Mr. Sheffield, was searched for and got on Shore within an Hour from the Time the Accident happened, without any Signs of Life. Mr. Willis happily got safe on Shore. Mr. Sheffield had that evening been to procure a Publication for himself which he had in his Pocket when drowned.
