On Monday last his Honor our Governor, attended by several Gentlemen of the Legislature, set out for South-Kingston. And the same Day some of the Members of the General Assembly met there, pursuant to the Governor's Warrant, but there not being a sufficient Number to make a House, they adjourn'd, & the Session commenc'd on Thursday Morning, when a Remonstrance, with a Memorial of the State of the Trade of the Northern Colonies, more especially of this, were laid before them, by a Committee from the principal Merchants of the Colony, praying that some effectual Effort of the Legislature might be made, to influence the Government at Home, to redress the Grievances imposed on the Trade of these Colonies, particularly by the enormous Duty on Foreign Sugar, Molasses, &c. and agreeable thereto, the General Assembly passed an Act Nemine contradicente, for immediately transmitting the said Memorial to Joseph Sherwood, Esq; our Agent at the Court of Great-Britain, with Directions to lay the same, in Conjunction with the Majority of the other Colonies, before the Parliament, and to exert his utmost Endeavours to obtain the Approbation of the Lords of Trade and Plantations, and to prevent a Revival of the Act of Parliament commonly call'd the Sugar Act, &c.
