A strange revolution is talked of on the continent, and if the account should prove true, a certain much favored Archduke will be effectually distanced from the hopes he entertained of wearing the imperial crown. It hath long been said, and as often contradicted, that the Emperor had chosen for his nephew's consort, the Princess of Wirtemberg, sister to the Grand Duchess of Russia, and that previous to the nuptials, the Archduke was to be chosen King of the Romans, and of course appointed to succeed the present Emperor. Now this favourite measure of Joseph II. is overturned by his nephew having formally declined the match. Incensed at this unaccountable obstinacy, his Imperial Majesty has resolved to take a second wife, and it is asserted that application hath, in consequence, been made to the King of Prussia for the hand of Princess Frederica, his daughter by the first marriage, and whose beauty and accomplishments are spoken of in the highest terms.

The Emperor of Germany, the Empress of Russia, and the King of Poland, seem to have something in their heads more than a mere pleasure journey or a coronation parade. The Empress has been very polite to the Grand Monarch, in finishing his commercial treaty before her departure. Not so complaisant to us! We are, it seems, to be served last, and we fear worst.
