Neighborliness Is Appreciated

LEVITTOWN, Pa. (—A neighbor friendly to Levittown's first Negro family received a $5 bill in the mail with a letter that said, "For some paint to help cover somebody's dirty work on your house."

The letter, received Monday by Lewis Weschler, also said, "Thank you for being a good neighbor . . . I thank our God for people like you."

It was not signed.

Weschler's house, near that of the William J. Myers Jr. family, Negroes whose arrival in August was greeted with protest crowds, was painted last Tuesday with large red letters "K-K-K." On Sept. 5 a cross was burned on the Weschler lawn.
