Full Text

People's leaving their native Country to sojourn in a strange Land is now become in a Manner fashionable. It is not Religion, which is at present the Pretence, but Misery and Want: People being overburthened with Taxes, and not longer able to subsist in the Bishoprick of Wurtbourg, many of them have come down the Rhine, most Roman Catholicks, in Order to go and people Nova-Scotia. In like Manner Several Families daily leave Lorrain, in Order to settle in the Dominions of their old Sovereign, or those of his august Consort the Empress Queen. In short, Languedoc, Dauphine, and Provence, are depopulating, which, indeed, is occasioned by the Persecution that the Intendants are renewing against the Protestants of those Provinces, where they swarm, and from whence they retire into Switzerland, Neufchatel, and even to Berlin.
