TO-DAY'S CONVENTION.
The democrats propose to carry Lewis and Clarke county this fall; carry it for Cleveland and Stevenson and for every candidate on the state and county tickets. They have given good evidence of this determination in the councils held during the past week and they propose to fight the battle to a finish and with all their strength.
It is therefore a matter of very great importance to select the right men for places on the county ticket. This work will be done to-day at the auditorium, and must be done well. It is the duty of not only every delegate, but every democrat, to be present at this gathering. Let it be a county convention to be remembered for its harmony, good will and large attendance.
The way to win is to nominate the best men, regardless of personalities or petty jealousies, if such may exist. Nominate men whose names mean strength in the community, names that will draw the confidence and honest support of voters.
Party lines in municipal and county elections are not drawn tight enough to make good citizens vote for a candidate simply because his name appears on the party ticket. The intelligent taxpayer in Lewis and Clarke county votes as he transacts his business. He wants none but the best men to guard the interests with which his home and family and pocketbook are connected.
The republicans have made some very weak nominations. The democrats will not find it difficult to nominate better men who can be elected.
This is the way to win, and for this purpose calm judgment and good sense alone should control the action of to-day's convention.
