In accordance with a plan agreed upon by the Committee on Church Cooperation, union Thanksgiving services will be held at central points in the various sections of the city this year.
The service for the fourth ward will be held at Big Bethel AME church on Thursday morning at eleven o'clock with the Rev. J. Raymond Henderson preaching the Thanksgiving sermon.
Every pastor in the fourth ward is invited along with his congregation and choir to participate in this mammoth union service.
It should require little in the way of argument to convince the most skeptical of the wisdom of this forward step on the part of the Committee on Church Cooperation in arranging this service. Heretofore, with Thanksgiving services held in many or all of the churches, attendance has been small and little interest manifested.
The Thanksgiving season is a fitting and logical time to forget the lines that divide the church, and all Christians come together regardless of denomination or creed, and pour out their hearts to God in joyous thanksgiving for his abundant blessings and boundless love in one place.
Every minister big enough to hold his exalted place as a leader and teacher of the people, will rejoice over the opportunity offered by the proposed union services to get the Christian people of the various sections of the city together for once in a joyous and wholesome fellowship of praise, thanksgiving and worship.
To insure ample time for keeping the many important appointments in a Thanksgiving Day program, the services will begin promptly at eleven and will close just as promptly at twelve. This will enable all who attend to get to the game and their dinner on time.
Ministers in the fourth ward are asked to give wide publicity to this event at their services on Sunday. Every church in the ward should be represented by its pastor, choir and a large proportion of the membership.
