The Subscription at the Globe Tavern for the Support of Mr. Alderman Wilkes was not Set on Foot by the Inhabitants or Common Council of his Ward, as has been reported, but by some publick spirited Gentlemen from the Society of the Bill of Rights, who meet there to receive the "Subscription of every Friend to the Cause of Liberty. Their Plan is to raise six Hundred Guineas a Year, by voluntary Subscription, at the moderate Rate of one Guinea from each Subscriber; and for this Purpose each Member solicits his Friends and Acquaintances, and they have succeeded so well that we hear they have paid the worthy Alderman fifty Guineas a Month for the two last Months, and do not despair of completing the Year's Plan, by the Same laudable Exertion.
