Full Text
Mr. MacFarland sent a memorial on Thursday last to the governor, praying a called court of oyer and terminer to try him; for the purpose, we presume, of enabling him to go on in time to take his seat in congress which meets the first Monday in next month. Gov. Turner refused to grant his request; alleging, that before he could have the advice of his council, the legislature would meet, who could, if applied to, interfere.
It would appear that Mr. MacFarland was very much persecuted: first pelted with rotten eggs in the streets of Fayetteville on the day of election, by some saucy boys; and now deprived of his liberty for the trifling accusation of forgery and perjury. [Raleigh Minerva.]
